I suspect he clearly gain points in Republican camps (indeed, all my Republican friends are partying it up on at the moment), and if this keeps us from getting a truly warmongering Republican like Palin in office next term, then that is a positive outcome. That said, the fact that he is pandering to voters by flattering their inappropriate and undemocratic emotional responses suggests to me that he cannot be a leader in any real sense of the word.
